Social Impact @ scieneers
Social added value through innovative AI solutions – projects that drive positive social change!
As a company, we contribute to social challenges and create social added value with data-driven solutions. We use our expertise in data science and data engineering, with the help of artificial intelligence, in areas where it is particularly important to society.
We develop sustainable solutions in impactful projects in collaboration with organisations such as DataKind, CorrelAid, or Save the Children.
Using natural language processing, political discourse, such as Bundestag protocols, can be analysed automatically and made accessible in terms of content. This makes it possible to highlight socially relevant topics, such as discrimination. With Open Discourse, we facilitate transparent processing of political communication and contribute to public discourse using topic modelling and sentiment analysis.
Together with CorrelAid, we analysed user data from the iNaturalist platform to examine participants’ behavior in various cities during the City Nature Challenge. Using statistical, social, and geospatial analyses, we demonstrated the impact of events and the effects of the pandemic on observation behaviour. In this way, we contribute to Citizen Science projects through data-driven research.
In a joint pro bono project with DataKind, the Lwala Community Alliance in western Kenya has developed a system that improves the quality of health data collected by community health workers using a mobile app. Any data issues can be identified and resolved early through regular data checks and the creation of pipelines and interactive dashboards. This project highlights the state of healthcare, improves it and potentially saves lives.
The DesinfoNavigator is a free tool designed to help users recognise disinformation. It allows users to identify and scrutinise rhetorical strategies, such as pseudo-experts, logical fallacies, and conspiracy myths. The tool uses an AI language model to analyze texts for patterns and provides advice on addressing problematic statements. The aim is to promote media literacy and prevent the spread of disinformation.
Have you identified a socially effective project you want to implement with us for your organisation? Or is it still just a vague idea that we could potentially develop together?
Either way, getting started with AI in your company is not difficult. We would be delighted to embark on a collaborative journey with you to develop the unique benefits of AI for your organisation.
As part of a pro bono project with CorrelAid, we supported Welcome App, a Dutch organisation that connects refugees with local communities and services. We aimed to enhance the integration process by systematically processing and evaluating data.
During a workshop on the future data and analytics strategy with Save the Children Germany, the world’s largest independent children’s rights organisation, we jointly developed a target image and design concept based on the current situation and issues.
By signing the Diversity Charter, an initiative that promotes diversity within companies and institutions, we are demonstrating our commitment to fostering respectful cooperation and actively promoting a corporate culture that recognises and values diversity as a strength.
